Marta Vidal Elected New President of the CAVA Designation of Origin

The new president will champion a roadmap aimed at enhancing the prestige of the CAVA Designation of Origin, promoting the vineyards and building confidence in the sector.
The Plenary Session of the Regulatory Council of the CAVA Designation of Origin has elected Marta Vidal as the new president of the CAVA Designation of Origin for the next four years. The vote took place at the Regulatory Council’s headquarters in Vilafranca del Penedès and was supported by an absolute majority of the members of the Plenary Session, which is composed of an equal number of representatives from the production and winemaking sectors.
Marta Vidal, the first woman to hold the presidency of the CAVA Designation of Origin, is taking on the challenge with the aim of fostering a shared vision for the sector in order to position Cava where it truly deserves to be. She also expressed her gratitude for the trust placed in her by the General Assembly and emphasised that she “takes on this responsibility with enthusiasm, humility, respect and an absolute commitment to the future of Cava”.
Marta Vidal, born in the Penedès region, holds a degree in Business Administration and Management and has spent her professional career in banking, holding senior management positions. Since 2017, she has served as CEO of Vallformosa, a winery with over 150 years of history located in Vilobí del Penedès (Barcelona), with the challenge of transforming and professionalising its business model.
Vidal has identified the strategic priorities of her term as enhancing the prestige of the CAVA DO, promoting the vineyard and building confidence in the sector.
Furthermore, the Plenary has elected David Sendra Anglès as Vice-President of the CAVA DO, who will support the presidency during this new four-year term.
The Plenary Session of the Regulatory Council of the CAVA Designation of Origin is composed of the following members:
Representatives of cooperative winegrowers: Enric Ferré Ginovart and Miguel Lleixa Masana, both from the Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives of Catalonia.
Representatives of winegrowers not affiliated to cooperatives: David Sendra Anglès and Fernando Medina (Dominio de la Vega SL), both representing the joint candidacy of the Union of Farmers and Young Farmers and Livestock Breeders of Catalonia (JARC), and Joan Colomer of J. Fortuny Fàbregas SL, representing the Association of Winegrowers of the Penedès.
Representative of wineries producing base wine: Adrià Rabadà of CEVIPE, Grup Cooperatiu SCCL, representing the Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives of Catalonia.
The representatives of the wine-producing wineries: representing AECAVA-Asociación Elaboradores de CAVA are Josep Palau of Freixenet, SA, Pere Escolar of García Carrión 1890, SL, Bruno Colomer of Codorníu, SA, Pere Ventura of Pere Ventura i Família, SL, Joaquim Tosas of Bodegues Sumarroca, SL and Montse Nicolàs of Viña Torreblanca, SL.
