Champagne and Music

What’s your favourite sparkling wine and music pairing?

Choosing a good sparkling wine for enjoying while listening to music is fun and is like pairing wine with food.

Below are some of the best types of sparkling wines to enjoy while listening to these popular music genres.

Pop Music

Pop music is a contemporary style of music that’s popular with a wide audience. It’s known for its strong rhythm, catchy melodies, simple lyrics, memorable choruses and danceable rhythms. Michael Jackson is referred to by many as the King of Pop, which is why his song ‘Beat It’ is the best example of the music genre. This type of music will pair well with a bottle of Prosecco, as it’s fun, light and fruity, easy to drink and appeals to a wide audience of sparkling lovers.

Rock

Rock music is known for its strong beat and loud volume. It is usually performed by bands that include the electric guitar, bass guitar and drums with at least one singer. Elvis Presley is, quite simply, known as the King of Rock & Roll. An Australian Sparkling Red Shiraz is a vibrant, deep, full-bodied, rich wine with ripe and intense fruit flavours that will pair well with the strong beat of this music.

Jazz

Jazz is a musical style that’s characterised by improvisation, syncopated rhythms, piano chord progressions and complex harmonies. It’s often described as a musical conversation between band members. It is often used in hotels to create a relaxing and luxurious ambience. Paul Whiteman is known as the King of Jazz. A Crémant sparkling wine, which is rich and creamy, will pair well with the smooth notes of jazz.

Country

Country music is bouncy and catchy, but also known for its ballads, folk lyrics and harmonies generally accompanied by instruments such as banjos, fiddles, harmonicas and many types of guitars. Many people associate country music with cowboy boots and two-step or line dancing. George Strait is known as the King of Country music. Lambrusco, a sparkling red wine from Italy, will pair well with Country music as it’s fun and fruity with a whole lot of character.

Classical

Classical music is characterised by its beautiful melody, elegance and balance. It includes several forms like sonatas, symphonies and operas. Both Mozart and Beethoven are considered giants of classical music. Musical critics tend to praise Mozart’s technical perfection and prodigious ease, while Beethoven is acclaimed for his innovation and ability to convey intense emotions through his music. Both are of slightly different styles and eras. This style of music requires a strong classic pairing of a bottle of Vintage Champagne. This type of Champagne will be rich and complex in flavours and aromas, smooth, creamy and persistent, which stands the test of time.

Blues

Blues songs are lyrical rather than narrative; blues singers are expressing feelings rather than telling stories. The emotion expressed is generally one of sadness or melancholy, often due to problems of love but also oppression and hard times. B.B. King is considered the King of the Blues. A bottle of English Sparkling Wine will pair well with this style of music. English sparkling wine is made in the same way as Champagne, sharing some similarities in aromas and flavours, but it is also known for its crisp acidity, so give it time to express its full characteristics.

Hip-Hop

Hip-hop is a genre of music most often characterised by a strong, rhythmic beat and a rapping vocal track. Eminem is known as the King of Hip-Hop. A bottle of Cava that has a crisp, zesty citrus flavour, bright acidity and a distinct minerality will stand up well to the hip-hop style of music.
