Piazza Italiana London

Piazza Italiana London

Located in the easy to reach area of the city where the architecture is a blend between old and new, the Piazza Italiana is an all in one location for fine gastronomy delights, cocktails and wine. Enter through the double doors and be greeted by the amazing high ceiling splendour of the dining area you are about to enjoy, relax in conveniently spaced seating and take a peek inside the chilled glass cabinets holding some of the finest wine labels of London and pleasingly too, many rare vintages.

Piazza Italian can be found on 38 Threadneedle Street, EC2R 8AY which is just a short walk away from Liverpool Street Station. The venue also offers private dining and events as well as classifying themselves as ‘London’s chicest wedding venue‘.

If you wish to enjoy drinks a separate bar area is towards the back end of the main dining hall where an extensive list of wines is on offer as well as a variety of cocktails to include classics along with quirky options. A rum-themed cocktail was chosen by myself and this was intriguingly named the Willy Wonka – I would have thought more candy style or even chocolate might have been the main ingredients, but a heavy dose of rum was maybe what Grandpa Joe might have wished for!

There are two large glass walled wine presentation areas that can be admired from the dining area, both full of a pleasing variety of wines to include some highly recommended classics. Even more pleasing was to see rare vintages which must have been supplied by specialists (or the sommelier has very good connections!) and this included rare vintage Champagnes and one of my favourite sparkling wines, Guilio Ferrari of Trento DOC region. As a bubbly lover, you are charmed from Prosecco to vintage Krug in magnum format.

The dining experience was fine, though lowered lighting will be a problem, especially for fellow Instagrammers! Staff were pleasant, though somewhat overburdened with work so the more relaxed approach and time spent with diners were slightly lacking (I rated the venue four stars from five due to this matter) – Maybe an extra staff member may have helped though I do understand cutbacks due to inflation etc. Food quality was more than satisfactory with a decent menu to cater for most preferences. The dishes were well presented.

A welcome glass of bubbly was also greatly appreciated!
