Quance Wines
We are a small vineyard of just under one and a half hectares, with between 3,500 and 4,000 vines growing, which, after this years plantings will be made up of the following varieties; Madeleine Angevine, Siegerrebe and Chardonnay for our white wines and the base of our sparkling wine, with Rondo, Cabernet Cortis, Dornfelder and Dunkelfelder for our red and rosé wines, as well as, the rondo to blend with our Chardonnay base wine to produce our pink fizz!

We took over the running of Summermoor Vineyard in August of 2013, and since then have been bringing it back into production, as it had become quite neglected in places over the previous year or two. Since then, we have taken a small harvest from last years vintage and will be releasing a still red and rosé wine this year. However, our aim for this (2014) vintage is to produce at least one still white wine, another still red and of course a pink sparkler!SONY DSC
All of our wines are named, we chose to look at the traditional method of choosing names after the region (no, not ‘Devon’) we researched the old celtic names for places in Devon and Cornwall. We have chosen names of celtic settlements with unknown locations in Devon and Cornwall, with our first two wines to be named Voliba (our red wine made from rondo) and Verteuia (our rosé, made from a blend of mainly rondo and madeleine angevine).

Quance Wines, is run by me, Jamie Quance-Woodland, with the help of much loved friends and family, as well as, willing volunteers at harvest time! The vineyard; Summermoor Vineyard is located around 5 miles south of Barnstaple, between Swimbridge and Bishops Tawton, on a steep south facing slope, set within its own vale; just off of the Taw Valley. We believe the site to be perfect for producing wines due to the combination of the steep slope, the well sheltered area of the vineyard, being in quite close proximity to the North Devon coast and the extremely well drained soil, in balance the ideal terroir to produce distinctly Devonshire wines!

The vineyard is also open to the public for tours, and at the beginning of Summer, for tours and tasting events, all by prior arrangement.
