Smith & Evans Sparkling Wines

Smith & Evans sparkling wines are produced in Somerset, UK, and created from a blend of ripe Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier Grapes.

2010

The wine has rich aromas of lemon, spice and toasted nuts. On the palate it keeps a taut balance between freshness and the minerality typical of Higher Plot with a full ripe finish.. It is 60% Chardonnay with the remainder split between Pinot Noir and Meunier.

For those that are interested in technical side of life, around half the wine spent 3 months in third use white wine barrels from Smith Haut Lafite (sadly no relation) It then spent two and a half years in bottle on its lees before disgorgement and was topped up with 2010 still wine reserved specifically for this use.

Blends from 2011, 2012 and 2013 are set to be great sparkling wines, with 2013 looking particularly hopeful.

Reserve

Each year we keep back a small proportion of our wine that we think is particularly characterful and high quality which could add something blended in with future years. In 2013 we decided to bottle some of this wine as a record of our first three harvests at Higher Plot.

When we release it, it is intended as something for High Days and Holidays. Both our own and other peoples.
