Sparkling Shiraz

Ever tried a sparkling red wine? It might sound unusual, but it’s becoming more popular due to its unique taste and great value.

One particular variety is Sparkling Shiraz. This sparkling red is made from a dark grape variety and is produced in Australia, mostly in the inland and the South of the country.

It is a surprisingly great wine to drink at breakfast, and pairs very well with rich meat and game. It has flavours of dark berries, blackberry and blueberry, and can be either dry or sweet. Try some out to see which you prefer.

As for it’s creation, the wine begins as an ordinary red wine Shiraz (or sometimes known as Syrah in other countries) on its first fermantation, but the secondary fermantation uses the méthode champenoise and gives it the bubbly taste.

If you haven’t already, give it a go and let us know what you think – or feel free to tell us your favourite sparkling red wine!
