Sparkling Wine & Fried Food: A Match Made in Heaven
10th January 2017
When it comes eating food with Champagne and sparkling wine, the first thing many people think of are sophisticated meals like lobster, caviar and duck.
While these are tried and tested classics which undoubtedly go well with a glass of bubbly, why not try something a bit more down-to-earth?
As sparkling wine becomes more popular in the UK, it’s more of an affordable, everyday luxury. This means it’s time to change our mindset – it’s no longer reserved for fancy banquets or simply an apéritif. A great thing about sparkling wine is it’s versatility when it comes to food pairing – there’s a style out there than can find a perfect match with almost any food.
However, some of the most satisfying food pairings include oily, greasy, salty foods.
The fat and salt in the food tastes incredible paired with Champagne or sparkling wine. The hint of sweetness in the wine balances the saltiness of the food.
So, don’t be afraid to treat yourself to some fizz with your chips! Here are some suggestions to pair with a glass of bubbly – whether that be Cava, Prosecco, Champagne, English or any other sparkling wine:
- Fish & Chips
- Fried Chicken
- Burgers
- Bacon
- Calamari
- French fries
