Sparkling Wines from Texas

Texas is known for it’s red and white wines, so it’s not always easy to find a sparkling variety. However, the industry is gradually picking up as demand increases, more wineries are investing in their sparkling wine ranges – so we will hopefully see plenty more in the future!

Many of the grapes for Texas sparkling wines are grown in the Texas Hill Country AVA (American Viticultural Area) and Texas Hill Plains AVA. The Hill Country is notable for its wide range of soil types and soil depths.

Messina Hof

Messina Hof is a family-owned winery and resort based on the three cornerstones of family, tradition and romance. It’s the most awarded and renowned Texas wine in national and international competitions. The winery has a restaurant, villa and events going on so it’s a great place to visit.

Their first sparkling, the Messina Hof Sparkling Brut, is described as “a crisp, refreshing, sparkling wine with pear and pineapple nuances and lively flavors of crisp green apple. A toasty coconut finish completes the brut.”

Landon Winery

Landon’s winemaking experience goes back to 1989 as vintner Bob Landon tried his hand at making wine in the basement of their Dutch Colonial home in Kansas City, Missouri. Fifteen years later in 2004 they started their winery business in Texas. They’ve come a long way since, receiving hundreds awards for their wines.

Bob, head winemaker, is happy to give guests a tour of the estate and sample some upcoming  wines.
