Tequila Fizz Cocktails
4th December 2020
What makes a good cocktail? Why are some hailed as classics and have stood the test of time, while others have fallen out of favour and are no longer seen? There are so many cocktail recipes that it’s difficult to imagine a new one, yet fresh ideas come to the fore all the time! After all, a cocktail is merely a mixture of a spirit – or perhaps more than one – with other mixers and sometimes fruit, so where do we stop?
There’s a trend at the moment for Tequila Fizz cocktails, which are made with tequila and either Champagne or sparkling wine. If you’re thinking high-flying, you’re right as it can’t be cheap to make if you use Champagne! These combine the fizz of the Champagne with fabled tequila kick and are a great idea for parties, but there’s another cocktail that uses Champagne that really is a classic. In fact, the Margarita may just be the queen of the cocktail world.
Making a Margarita
If you’re new to making cocktails, it’s fair to say a Tequila Fizz recipe would be a good starting point as they tend to be very easy to put together. But it’s always more satisfying to make a classic, so what goes in a margarita? A margarita is a simple cocktail: four shots of tequila of choice, a single shot of Cointreau, in a full shaker of ice with the juice of a whole lime. Give it a good shake and salt the rim of a tall glass, and pour it in.
There are few drinks as outstandingly refreshing as a Margarita, and it’s the combination of the tequila with the lime that gives the kick you need. If you check these tequila reviews you’ll find suggestions for other drinks in that sort of area, and we strongly recommend white tequila for the best margarita.
But what type to use for a Tequila Fizz cocktail? White is great here too, for the coloured versions – while perfectly suitable for taste – may make the cocktail appear cloudy, and a cocktail is as much about how it looks as how it tastes! However, as a cocktail is about experimenting with different mixes of flavours there’s nothing stopping you using a dark tequila in yours and giving it a touch of originality as you do!
Tequila Cocktail Tips
The cocktail is a great party piece and an excellent choice if you want to add some fun to the occasion. You could ask your guests to invent their own Tequila Fizz cocktail by giving them the Champagne or sparkling wine, the tequila, lime and ice, and a few other bottles of spirits to play with. We recommend vermouth as a great mix for tequila, and you really can’t go wrong with a touch of brandy. It’s really up to you, but for the fizz you need to make sure you use the best ratio of Champagne to tequila without losing the tequila flavour that makes this sort of cocktail unique.
If you want to check out some more tequila cocktail recipes there’s a whole world of them to look at, and you’ll be surprised how easy they are to make. If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, they are a great addition to your kit, and they don’t cost much at all.
