UK Ministers urged to opt for English Sparkling Wine at Official Events
24th December 2015
Government Ministers are being suggested to serve home-grown sparkling wine rather than Champagne, Prosecco and Cava at official events.
The plea comes from Arundel and South Downs MP Nick Herbet. Being from an area that produces award-winning sparkling wine, the MP has noticed it’s superb quality and potential. Sussex is home to some top quality English sparkling wine houses, such as Nyetimber and Ridegview.
With production increasing, it would be a positive step for English winemakers if it becomes the standard bubbly served at official government events. It represents the countries growing industry and also helps support the winemakers.
Environment secretary Liz Truss said she planned to hold talks in 2016 with wine industry officials to see how they can help continue the industry’s strong growth.
