UK Prosecco sales overtake Champagne for the first time

The value of Prosecco sales in the UK overtook Champagne for the first time over the past 12 months, with Proescco sales totalling £338.6m, an increase of 72% on the last year.

Champagne sales value only reached £250m, which was only a small increase of 1.2% from the previous year, while Cava sales dropped 11% to £18.6m.

As more and more people are enjoying Prosecco as an everyday drink, the increase in Prosecco sales is estimated to have added £142m in value to the British grocery sector over the past year.

Prosecco has had the lead over Champagne in terms of litres sold for the past several years, but this is the first time that the value of sales has overtaken Champagne.
