Ultimate Guide to Cristal Rosé Champagne Vintages / Price Values
31st January 2025

For those who appreciate the finesse of Cristal, the rosé label is the ultimate tasting experience. Entering the scene some 100 years after the launch of Cristal from Champagne Roederer, the rosé blend consists usually of 55% Pinot noir and 45% Chardonnay with 20% of the wine matured in oak. The Cristal Rosé label you can be assured will have aged on average for a period of six years in the cellars of Louis Roederer.
“In 1974, 100 years after the creation of Cristal, Jean-Claude Rouzaud decided to create the Cristal Rosé cuvée. To achieve this, he selected old-vine Pinot noir grapes from the finest Grand Cru vineyards at Aÿ, which are now cultivated according to biodynamic principles. The unique calcareous clay soil, which gives the grapes an exquisite minerality, enables the vines (in the best years) to attain exceptional fruit maturity, complemented by a crystalline acidity.” source louis-roederer.com
The rosé label is probably far more delicate regarding ageing in the bottle over Cristal brut, it’s storage is paramount to its likely taste quality with older bottles likely to be underperforming unless you were lucky enough to purchase from the cellar door. Nonetheless, these vintages are highly desired and collectable and command a higher price than the brut label due to their limited production.
“There is always an excitement building if there is a rosé Cristal or two awaiting to be opened. I’ve been lucky enough to attend a few events now where not only recent releases are launched, but also an older vintage is shared to show the wine’s ageing capabilities. For me, the 1995 and 1996 are still performing magnificently and have grown a bold savoury edge with deeper red fruit skin / dried red rose petal / hints of wooden spice.” Christopher Walkey
