A visit to Champagne Philippe Gamet
23rd May 2018
With 9 hectares and a production of 80,000 year annually, Philippe Gamet is a Champagne producer that is located just outside of Epernay in Mardeuil. The family producer is led by Philippe who is the current wine maker and head of the brand – 55% of their estate is planted with Meunier, 35% with Pinot Noir and the remaining 10% with Chardonnay.
The house offers a selection of 7 cuvées (along with a rosé de saignée and they also produce their own Ratfaia) to enjoy from the vineyards that are spread over three villages of Mardeuil, Damery and Fleury la rivière and though a relatively small producer, they manage their own wine production facilities and storage.
Philippe’s father, who originally created the idea of producing the family’s own Champagne over just selling grapes, can still be seen involving himself in the production of their wines and during my visit h,e also joined us during a tasting. The business is currently run by Philippe and his wife Fabienne and it looks set that the family tradition will continue in years to come with their children most likely to enter the business – The label currently sells most of its production in to France though now are looking at expansion of international sales.
