Visit Fairmile Vineyard Henley on Thames

Fairmile Vineyard in Henley on Thames lies on the same flinty chalky marl that stretches across South-East England to the white cliffs of Dover, then under the Channel into Northern France. In 2011, local couple Jan and Anthea Mirkowski recognised that the Stonor Valley, where it enters Henley, would provide the ideal terrain and microclimate for viticulture. The steep south-facing slope below the 100 metres altitude critical to English vineyards helps vines capture the most sunlight – in fact, 30% more sunlight during late summer, when the grapes are ripening, and the sun is low on the horizon, than if the vines were planted on level ground.

Book your own tour & taste in Henley’s vineyard, any time of the year

Their tours are available all year round, where they take a group into the vineyard to demonstrate the annual cycle of the vines and how the wine is made. They then walk the group up to the top of the slope, where they have a seating area to enjoy a tutored taste of their sparkling Rosé and Classic Cuvée wines, with spectacular views, watching the red kites circling the Chilterns National Landscape below.

After the tour, you are welcome to remain in the Vineyard and enjoy more of their sparkling chilled wine, which you are able to purchase. If you wish, you may also bring food or order a picnic from a local supplier. You are welcome to bring non-alcoholic drinks.

If you don’t want the full tour, you are able to book a slot to just come and buy a chilled bottle to enjoy in the vineyard, perhaps with your own picnic.

New for 2026 – Walk Works vineyard tours

If one Henley vineyard isn’t enough for you, how about visiting between 2 to 4 Henley Vineyards in the same day? Walk Works have published a 2026 calendar of their hugely successful walking tours of vineyards in and around Henley.

Make sure to try their Blanc de Noirs 2018, which won a Gold Medal in the Winter Warmer category at the Glass of Bubbly Awards 2025.

A deep, mellow, complex sparkling wine which derives its name from the extraction of white juice out of their black-skinned grapes from a single year’s harvest.

Tasting notes: “Complex flavours including cinnamon roll, nutmeg and vanilla with a long lasting finish.”
