Warden Abbey Community Vineyard Launch First Sparkling Wine
4th January 2017
Volunteers at Warden Abbey Community Vineyard in Bedfordshire were popping corks over the festive season to mark the launch their very first sparkling wine.
Warden Abbey Brut 2014 is the first sparkling wine to be produced since the vineyard was taken on by Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity in 2010.
Vineyard manager Jane Markham said “Releasing our first sparkling wine is a memorable landmark to end a year in which we have celebrated the vineyard’s 30th anniversary. And it was lovely to toast Christmas and New Year with our own wine. Hopefully, it will be under many a Bedfordshire Christmas tree in the future!”
The vineyard has been run by a team of volunteers for the past six years, making it one of the few true community vineyards in the UK. The wine was made entirely from grapes grown at Warden Abbey by Litmus Wines at Denbies Wine Estate.
