The Traveling Spiceman Cocktail
30th January 2023
It’s time to pack up our spices and move on to the next location, our days as a Traveling Spiceman are not easy, it’s hard trying to convince people to expand their palates with a new variety of spices, but our troubles have triggered us to have a brilliant idea, a new initiative to help showcase the spice world.
To help show our selection of spices, we’ll offer the chance for people to taste them within a special Glass of Bubbly Cocktail, drawing in some help from Bisol Prosecco, Atlas Gin and Nurtured in Norfolk.
With such a wide variety of spices to choose from, you are bound to find one to complement your fizz cocktail, so it’s no wonder we can tap into the Spring Fling characters of this Prosecco and the sweet delicate spice/nutty displays from this original Lovecake Gin, we’ll take the spice world forward starting with a festive favourite.
The Prosecco – Bisol
Bisol has a history dating back to 1542. 5 centuries and 21 generations have worked on creating great-tasting wines. The only time Bisol was interrupted was during World War I, the Valdobbiadene territory (where Bisol is located) stood right on the battle lines between the Austrian-Hungarian forces and their opponents, the Italians, but in 1920 they were back on track and once again pushing the boundaries and bringing people’s taste buds forward into the future.
You can find out more about Bisol here: Bisol, from 1542 to the future of Prosecco Superiore or find out what it’s like taking A visit to Bisol Prosecco to see if it’s something you’d like to do (Spoiler alert, it will be!).

The Gin – Atlas
Atlas Gin was founded by Paul Martin in Lincolnshire, though the story begins in Edinburgh, right after Paul discovered his passion for Gin, becoming fascinated with the flavours and how adding the perfect mixer added life and depth to the botanicals within a good gin.
When Paul travelled back home to Lincolnshire, he got started on crafting his own blend of Gins, exploring new ideas and experimenting with unique botanicals, he took inspiration from the flavours of the world, then infused only the finest botanicals for 24 hours, so that the flavours could be fully released. Atlas Gin is one shot distilled in a copper still to ensure that it’s smoother on the palate and that nothing impairs the flavour profile.
It’s not the quickest or easiest way to make gin, but it’s the way they like to do things – after all, it’s an adventure!
I reached out to the founder, Paul Martin to ask him a question: ‘What Seduced You To Start Crafting Your Own Gin?’
“I discovered my love of gin in Edinburgh 2018. I had never had a gin before and was served a Gin Mare, it was amazing, served with Olives, Rosemary, ice and a slice of orange, and Fever Tree Mediterranean Tonic, just the best. In 2020 when covid hit I pretty much lost my design business of 16 years. I had the idea of my own gin recipes sitting there as well as the name for the brand, so I decided in lockdown to just go for it and launch 3 gins.” – Paul Martin
Atlas Lovecake Gin Tasting Notes
Aroma – “The aroma draws you in with almond, pistachio, rose petals, juniper and sweet vanilla on the aroma.”
Flavour – “A wonderful cake-like display, with sponge cake, Turkish delights, rose petals, nutty characters of almonds, walnuts, peanuts, with a subtle citrus close.”
In the fascinating world of ancient legends, there is one story that tells of a woman who created a special cake to try to win the heart of a handsome prince. Her romantic offering combined the most prized ingredients, including rose water and sweet pistachios.
As to whether she won the prince’s love is unknown, but her legacy lives on and Persian love cakes are still baked and enjoyed to this day. This gin is inspired by both the story and traditional love cake recipes.
