It seems more people than ever are eager to have a piece of English land to grow their vines as 46 more applications have been submitted to HM Revenue & Customs on top of last year.

It’s no surprise considering the potential of English sparkling wine, which has grown considerably in the last 10 years, achieving 15% year-on-year growth. English bubbly was one of the fastest growing sparkling wines of 2014 and continues to increase it’s reputation as a luxury item.

It just goes to show how far the industry has come, when English sparkling wine is served at State Banquets.

Gordon Ramsay also showed his faith in English bubbly, adding them to his wine list at his French restaurant in the heart of Bordeaux, including Gusbourne Estate, Coates & Seely, Ridgeview and Camel Valley.

There are now almost 500 vineyards in England and Wales. With the expectation that the sparkling wine industry is set for a period of growth over the next 5 years, now is the perfect time to be an English sparkling winemaker.

The ISWR predicts consumption will rise by 17.5 million nine-litre cases up to 2018. The majority of the growth comes from the US, Germany, UK and Russia.
