New Vintage Release of Cristal Vinothèque 1996

Launched in Paris, the Vinothèque 1996 Blanc and Rosé are just the second vintage of Cristal Vinothèque to be released by Champagne Louis Roederer. MMD UK are delighted to offer them to the UK market.

The decision was made over 20 years ago to hold back a small number of bottles of Cristal with the intention of allowing them to undergo extended ageing in the Louis Roederer cellars in Reims. The vision was to present Cristal to the market at perfect maturity for drinking.

In preparation for this extended ageing, the wines were disgorged with the utmost care to avoid trauma to the wine, while a lower dosage was added than for Cristal. The wines were bottle aged for 10 years before being laid down for a further 10 years in the cellars.

Despite this long ageing, these Champagnes give the distinct impression of having undergone a rejuvenation, expressing brighter, chalkier notes than in their youth. The Cristal Champagnes in the Vinothèque collection have attained the celebrated confluence of fruit, freshness and maturity.
