Gusbourne Sparkling Wine
15th May 2014
Winemaking is taken extremely seriously at Gusbourne. Picking of the grapes is done by hand with harvest dates established by individual vineyard.
We are fortunate to have a dedicated harvest team. Rita Everett and Ann Hathaway, aged 72 and 73 respectively, have been picking grapes at Gusbourne Estate since the very first harvest, and their employment is part of the estate’s commitment to the local community.
Each vineyard parcel is pressed in whole bunches by itself and subsequently vinified in individual stainless steel tanks before the long process of evaluation and blending takes place.
After bottling, prolonged periods of ageing on the lees and post-disgorgement ageing form a central part of our wine-making philosophy.
Although demand is now exceeding supply, the estate remains steadfast in its commitment to ageing our wines for a minimum of 36 months on lees and to only producing wines from our own grapes.
