A visit to Borgoluce Prosecco

Borgoluce is one incredible winery estate in the DOCG region of Prosecco, but to be honest it also needs to be described as a location that contains everything needed for daily life thanks to pastures, woodlands, orchards, vineyards, dairies and much more.

I was very pleased to be able to spend the whole morning with Mr Lodovico Giustiniani who is the present day CEO and who’s wife, along with her sister, are the owners of this impressive 1,220 hectares estate. It is some 16 kms across and we spent a few hours of driving round the neatly arranged estate where you clearly get the passion and drive behind Borgoluce which Eco-sustainability is where they are focusing and on giving respect and care for their natural resources their estate contains.

Tourism is also of importance to Borgoluce with wonderful apartments and rooms available on the estate set in peaceful locations in traditional houses and overlooking the great nature scenery and vineyards. There is also a fantastic natural swimming pool which really tempted me to explore I must say:

Clearly Borgoluce is a business and all businesses must be built on profit and growths, but you also feel that Borgoluce is equally determined to not squeeze the wonderful gift of nature that it’s land owns and instead to grow in a 100% sustainable focused fashion. The estate is clearly growing with advancements in vineyard plantation and the construction of the new winery, but once again it is giving with educational trips available on its estate for 1,000’s of young students who visit them yearly.

Borgoluce could take up many hours of writing to showcase the many eco-sustainable efforts they are making on their estate, but as ever I must concentrate on their sparkling wines and this means their 100 hectares of vines on the estate. Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG is where my focus was from this visit and they produce a range of 5 wines carrying the Prosecco Superiore name.

What really stood out for me when we visited the vineyards throughout the estate was how they all seemed to blend in perfectly with their environments. Many seemed hidden or even camouflaged in fact within surrounding forestry and olive trees, positioned as I said naturally over being planted just to make use of the precious Glera growing space.

The wines are all very well balanced, all rich and elegant, refreshing and smooth – You know you are experiencing Prosecco Superiore with Borgoluce. As I enjoyed lunch at Osteria, the estates very own restaurant, myself and Alessandro Samogin who is Commercial Manager, tasted a selection of their Prosecco Superiore over some very fine food and for those of you who think it is just Champagne that pairs well with food need to experiment with more solutions as Bergoluce really impressed.

So, to summarise Borgoluce and to try and keep it short and sweet! It is a fantastic location to visit if you want to experience many delights of the local region from fine foods at their restaurant Osteria to local natural foods at their farm shop. You can purchase fine Prosecco Superiore to natural honey and you can also spend a few days on the estate itself with a choice of over night stays and of course, usage of that fine natural swimming pool which for my next visit I will make sure I have my trunks packed in with my camera equipment.
