Discover Grower Champagnes
31st August 2022
Welcome to the world of Champagne, this industry offers endless enjoyment and a front-row seat to look into the stars.
In this article I want to share with you some of the most fascinating, exciting and amazing Grower Champagnes that are on the market just waiting for you to discover, taking a step across from the big houses like Moët & Chandon, Bollinger or Taittinger into the small family run or small business Grower Champagnes.
90% of the Vineyards in Champagne are owned by over 15,000 Growers
First of all, the most important thing that you want to know is, do you lose quality with Grower Champagnes?
The answer is Absolutely not, whether you’re producing 1,000 bottles or 1,000,000 bottles, it all comes down to the skill of the Winemaker and how they can use the terroir and grapes to their advantage.
You will tend to find some more enhanced individual characters from a Grower Champagne exceeding the quality of a big Champagne house, this is because the bigger Champagne houses need to cater to a large audience of people with a variety of palates who enjoy their style of Champagne, if one year they decided to switch up the flavours, then their customers will notice and potentially not enjoy the new style. Changing the blend risks losing some customers.
Grower Champagnes have a bit more leeway with their blends, they still have to think about their fan base, it would definitely have an impact if they changed their flavours from yeasty to fruity for example.
Grower Champagnes tend to have a more precise palate to cater to, meaning that people like their Champagne because it has certain characters, some will be very nutty, others ripe with yellow fruits or even heading into the savoury, oaky, pastry or floral characters.
But with this wide variety of Grower Champagnes, how do you find a bottle that you’re going to enjoy?
It’s not easy, you either need to plan a trip to Champagne and taste you’re way through, or you need to find some help from websites or real people, if you need some help then Glass of Bubbly has a wide array of articles to view, showcasing loads of different Wineries and Sparkling Wines from loads of different countries.
So let’s go into it and discover 5 incredible Grower Champagnes.
