The Squerryes Estate has been around since 1731, and the estate is currently being looked after by 8th generation Henry Warde. This year the vineyard is celebrating its 20th anniversary and is now proudly producing award winning sparkling English wine which can be purchased at the winery and through retailers including Waitrose.

Vineyard owner Henry Warde said: “It was 20 years ago this year when the Champagne House Duval Leroy came to visit Squerryes and started us thinking about growing vines on the estate ourselves. They were looking for what they described as ‘white gold’ – south facing chalk similar to the Cotes des Blancs where they are headquartered. At the time we had no idea how significant this visit was to become. Looking back though, it provided the catalyst to taking the first step to making some of the world’s finest sparkling wine. 2024 is another significant milestone of this journey. For the last 13 years we have had a very successful wine making partnership with Henners in Sussex. We are hugely appreciative to them but it’s now time to step out on our own and to develop our very own winery.

Plans are underway on the estate at Gaysham with the press and tanks on order and we will have everything in place for the October harvest. As the winery takes shape, we’ll be sharing updates throughout the year.

We are grateful to all our visitors and members for their continued support as we enter a new and exciting phase at Squerryes.”

Squerryes is open to everyone to enjoy the vineyard experience including a wonderful meal in the award-winning Winery Restaurant together with wine tastings events and much more.

With the changing of the season, there’s a new set menu available for diners on weekday lunchtimes. Still with a focus on drawing from produce from the estate and local area, diners can now enjoy Sankey’s fish on the menu as well as a vegetarian option and some tempting desserts including a delicious vanilla and raisin bread pudding with Horlicks ice cream. Until the end of February, the set menu will also available on Saturday lunchtimes.

To bring some joy to January there is a special offer available on weekday lunchtimes using code Lunch24 which allows three courses for the price of two, serving up exceptional value for money at £23. https://www.squerryes.co.uk/restaurant
