The Famille Penet is a historic winemaking dynasty renowned for producing exclusive Grand Cru Champagnes in the Montagne de Reims region of France. Their legacy is rooted in centuries of viticulture in the villages of Verzy and Verzenay, centred around a 19th-century mansion and vaulted cellars in Verzy.

The estate is managed by Alexandre Penet, a fourth-generation winemaker, and his wife, Martine Penet-Grimm. Alexandre has introduced a ‘single vineyard, single plot’ approach, which emphasises producing low-dosage Champagnes that highlight the region’s unique terroir.

The family’s Champagne labels include Penet-Chardonnet (Grand Cru), Alexandre Penet and Ex Ante.

Additionally, they produce Crémants, with Alexandre crafting a popular Crémant d’Alsace under the brand Comte de Grimm.

Family members Anne-Sophie Penet and Frédéric Meurgey also produce a Crémant de Loire at their Château de la Presle estate.

Comte de Grimm Cremant d’Alsace

This Blanc de Blancs Crémant is produced from Auxerrois and Pinot Blanc grapes. It has delicate aromas of white flowers, peach, and a hint of spice. Flavours of crisp green apple, pear, and citrus notes layered with brioche and biscuit and a creamy finish.

Pairs well with fresh seafood like oysters, seared scallops or sushi.

Ex-Ante Champagne

Ex Ante means ‘Beforehand’ in Latin. This Extra Brut Champagne has beautiful red berry aromas of raspberry and redcurrant with hints of peach and almonds. A creamy texture with flavours of baked apple and notes of citrus, butter with a chalky mineral finish.

Pairs well with pan-seared scallops with a lemon-butter sauce and rich chicken liver pâté.

Alexandre Penet Extra Brut Champagne

This Champagne is aged partially in oak barrels. It has elegant aromas of citrus, floral notes and hints of hazelnut.

Pairs well with saucisson, rillettes and pâté de campagne.

Champagne Penet-Chardonnet Hypothesis Champagne Perpetual Reserve

Produced according to the ‘Perpetual Reserve’ principle, a continuous-blending method used primarily in Champagne production to create non-vintage wines.

This Grand Cru Blanc de Noirs is produced from 100% Pinot Noir and has a delicate, light salmon-copper hue.

Aromas of crisp red apples and raspberries, layered with toasted brioche and a hint of spices. Full of red fruit flavours with a touch of roasted nuts and toast.
