3rd February 2025

This Valentine’s Day, toast to the occasion with perfect Champagne pairings – the drink of choice for romantic and celebratory moments. With its versatility, the range of Champagne styles offers a wine to complement every moment of your special occasion. The Champagne Bureau UK* wanted to share their top tips for Valentine’s Day pairings.
How to pair Champagne styles this Valentine’s Day
Champagne Rosé: Rosé is one of the most versatile styles of Champagne and it is a popular choice for Valentine’s Day due to its delicate pink hue and romantic charm. Not only this, but its notes of red berries and yellow fruits pair incredibly well with a range of dishes. We would opt for richer foods such as lobster, poultry, particularly roasted or grilled chicken, or grilled salmon. Additionally, Champagne Rosé is an excellent option for those desserts incorporating strawberries such as a decadent strawberry tart.
Champagne Brut: Champagne Brut is a reliable and crowd-pleasing option with a range of pairing possibilities. The term “Brut” refers to the dosage or the addition of a slightly sweet touch at the end of the vinification process. Slightly lighter foods, such as egg or mushroom based dishes are a great option, and this opens the door to pastas or risottos with a cream based sauce.
Champagne Blanc de Noir: Made exclusively from black grape varieties (Pinot Noir and Meunier) Blanc de Noir’s offer a complex array of flavours, including white and yellow fruits such as peaches, apricots, and plums, as well as red and black fruits such as strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries. Blanc de Noirs can also show earthy notes that make a good match with truffles, ribeye steak, lamb chops or game meats – some excellent options for those dishes in celebration of special occasions.
Champagne Blanc de Blancs: Blended exclusively from white grape varieties, Champagne Blanc de Blancs are light to taste and known for their exceptional freshness. They classically have notes of white flowers, citrus fruits and exotic fruits and pair particularly well with seafood dishes such as sushi, sashimi, fresh oysters or scallops – great for those Valentine’s Day starters.
Champagne Vintage: The most suitable companion to exceptional occasions, intimate gatherings, and memorable and magical moments in life – Champagne Vintages are comprised of grapes from a single harvest. These wines are matured for a minimum of three years and therefore, exhibit complex nutty and toasted aromas, as well as honey and stewed fruits. Fish and seafood are the perfect complement to Vintage Champagnes especially when accompanied with a creamy sauce however, due to the exceptional nature of these wines they work perfectly as an aperitif and toasting wine too.
